Paddy Power, Ireland’s leading betting company, will be replacing the former COO of the company from within its own ranks. Paddy Power have now confirmed that its Chief Operating Officer Breon Corcoran will be leaving the company to take up his new positing as Chief Executive Officer of Betfair starting August 2012.
Breon Corcoran joined Paddy Power in 2001 and as COO, he had responsibility for Online and Technology, Non-Retail HR and development in the U.S. Corcoran is taking over former Betfair Chief David Yu, who announced back in June that he would not be renewing his contract with Betfair.
Betfair’s Chairman has commented that they are thrilled to be working with Breon Corcoran. Corcoran is highly respected in the gambling business and with his excellent track record; this makes him the ideal candidate for the job.
With the loss of Breon Corcoran, Paddy Power has had to reshuffle internally, naming: Peter O’Donovan as managing director of Paddy Power Online & Technology, Christopher Coyne as head of Paddypower.com, Eamonn Toland as president of Paddy Power North America, Aine Cuddihy as head of Investor Relations and they have recruited Sandra Thorpe as HR Director, Online & Corporate.
Paddy Power has in recent times moved its online casino to the Playtech Casino platform and it remains to be seen if this move will be good for the Irish powerhouse. In recent times other large bookmakers have experienced turbulent times on the software, most notably William Hill Online who have had to endure a staff walk out and possible machinations by Playtech shareholders in its business.
